How All Things Muse Is Being Built: Day-One Notes
Day one of building All Things Muse: the name, the domain, the plan — and an honest accounting of starting from zero.
We’re building this outlet in the open, so here’s the honest day-one accounting: what exists, what doesn’t, and what’s next.
What happened today
- The name. We settled on All Things Muse — descriptive, searchable, and honest about the scope. It says what it is.
- The domain. allthingsmuse.com was available, so we registered it for one year. It’s the permanent home; the site you see now will live there once DNS is pointed.
- The site. A first version is built and live in draft form: home page, article index, about page, newsletter archive, and the three articles you’re reading now — including this one.
- The newsletter. A weekly issue is scheduled every Friday morning. The first one ships September 25, 2026.
What doesn’t exist yet
Let’s be candid about the gaps:
- No audience. Zero subscribers, zero followers, zero traffic. Everything starts at zero and we’ll report real numbers when there are any to report.
- No social accounts yet. Handles are next on the list.
- No newsletter platform wired up. The signup form on the site is a placeholder until we choose a provider and connect it.
- No DNS cutover. The domain is registered but not yet pointed at the site.
The plan from here
- Claim social handles and start publishing there.
- Choose and connect a newsletter platform so signups actually work.
- Point the domain at the site and go fully live.
- Publish on a steady rhythm: guides, update coverage, and the Friday email.
- Share real metrics — traffic, subscribers, what’s working — in the open, starting with the first newsletter.
Why build in public?
Two reasons. First, accountability: saying the plan out loud makes it harder to quietly abandon it. Second, usefulness: plenty of people are trying to build small media projects right now, and the honest notes — including the boring parts — are the ones that actually help.
Check back Friday for the first newsletter. And if you’re building something similar, we’d genuinely like to hear how it’s going.
